Woman in 40s confirmed as horror crash victim

ONE woman died and two others were seriously injured in the highway crash.

A HORROR crash on the New England Highway yesterday afternoon claimed the life of a woman in her 40s.

Two other women who were passengers in the car are believed to still be in a serious condition after the crash, which occurred about 2.30pm yesterday at Glen Aplin, south of Stanthorpe.

One of the passengers was a teenager while the other woman was also in her 40s.

All three women were from the Logan area but were not related.

Stanthorpe Police's Sergeant Daniel O'Dea yesterday said their vehicle was driving north on the New England Highway when it left the road and hit a tree.

The two passengers were pulled from the vehicle and taken to Stanthorpe Hospital before being transported by LifeFlight helicopter to Brisbane.

The third woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A dog was also in the car but survived the crash.

Emergency services locked down the highway in both directions to remove the patients.

The northern lane of the highway was re-opened by police about 3.50pm and both lanes were open by 6.30pm.

Sgt O'Dea said it had been two years since there had been a fatality in the area.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the crash.
