A well-known Warwick family business has been left reeling following a “brazen” early-morning break-in, with thousands of dollars worth of stock stolen from the popular jewellery store.
Rose City Showcase Jewellers in Rose City Shoppingworld have been serving the Warwick community for almost 25 years, however in recent times have been targeted by shocking crimes.
The store located in Warwick’s major shopping centre, and its sister store Warwick Watchmakers and Jewellers on Palmerin St, have been broken into twice within a year.
It is believed that in the early hours of Monday morning three individuals broke their way through the glass exterior of the shopping centre before smashing into the jewellery store cabinet with a pickaxe.
John Walsh first opened Warwick Watchmakers and Jewellers in 1976, and now his daughter, Larissa, oversees the business.
Ms Walsh said the break-in was “gusty” and “brazen”.
“I got the call about five minutes after it happened, around 2.30am, after the alarm went off,” she said.
“It was targeted, and for lack of a better word, gutsy. They had to break into the shopping centre first and then into the store- it’s brazen and I think they know that they’ll get away with it.
“About $35,000 worth of stock was taken and that doesn’t even cover the cost of the damages, it’s been really hard on the family and it’s a real kick in the guts for us.
“There’s no point wallowing in it, one of the people had a pickaxe, so we’re somewhat grateful that it wasn’t a hold up or anything because stock can be replaced but people cannot.”
