Two people in hospital after horror highway crash at Stanthorpe

A major Queensland highway was closed while authorities rushed two men to hospital following a horrific crash between a truck and ute at Stanthorpe.

Two men were taken to hospital after a horror afternoon crash at Stanthorpe that left one person trapped in a wrecked ute for more than an hour.

It is understood a ute and truck collided near the intersection of the New England Highway and Caves Road about 3.30pm on Wednesday.

The male truck driver, aged in his 40s, suffered minor shoulder and abdominal injuries but was unable to exit his vehicle due to the damage it sustained.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman said he male driver of the ute suffered serious leg injuries as well as head and arm injuries.

It took several hours for Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews to extricate the man using hydraulic spreading and cutting equipment.

The man was out of the vehicle by about 5pm.

As a result the Highway was closed for several hours between High Street and McGlew Street.

Both men were transported to the Stanthorpe Hospital.
