Three crashes in Warwick in one day keep responders busy amid horror weekend

Warwick police responded to three traffic matters within 24 hours in the Southern Downs, as the wider region suffered a horror weekend on the roads.

Warwick police have issued a warning to drivers in the region to remain careful following a sobering three traffic incidents taking place within a 24-hour period in the Rose City.

The carnage on our roads began on Friday morning at 10am after a semi truck rolled at a major Warwick intersection causing delays.

Fire crews were called after a semi carrying a load through Warwick, and following the incident were required to clean up a fuel leak at the Albion-Wood St intersection.

The driver of the truck was believed to be uninjured.

Just shy of an hour later, police were called to a single vehicle crash on Saddledam Rd, Leslie Dam.

A 49-year-old man from Warwick crashed his vehicle into a tree about 11.20am on Friday.

He suffered serious injuries and was flown to Brisbane.

Police confirmed investigations into the crash were continuing.

Just after 4pm on the same day, police were called to a single vehicle crash on the New England Highway at Dalveen.

A 78-year-old man from Wallangarra crashed his vehicle into a tree and was towing a trailer at the time.

The driver suffered serious injuries including a broken leg, and was also flown to Brisbane.

Investigations into the cause of that crash are continuing.

A 68-year-old Kingsthorpe woman died after a car and cattle truck collided on the Warrego Highway on Sunday marking a horror three days on the Downs roads.

The driver of the truck was not physically injured.

Investigations by the Forensic Crash Unit are continuing.

Warwick acting OIC Shane Reid said within the past three days police responded to matters including several serious injury and fatal crashes in the Darling Downs District.

“Police strongly remind motorists to drive according to the road and weather conditions and obey the fatal five contributing factors when behind the wheel,” he said.
