HOCKEY: The 2020 season is just around the corner and preparations are already being put in place for the new season.

The season will commence early for Warwick hockey players, with the club running their annual summer 9s competition.

Warwick Hockey Association secretary Sarah Dudin said it was not just for those who play regular-season hockey.

“The games are always a bit of fun, and they’re played in mixed teams so the competition is a little bit lighter,” Dudin said.

“A lot of our players use it as a way to keep fit in the off season, but it’s more of a social game.

“We’re hoping for at least three teams to be able to get the competition going, but obviously the more the merrier.”

Dudin said the 9s competition was a sport for the whole family and a way for new players to garner their interest in the sport.

“If people haven’t played before, there are certainly opportunities to join in and pick up the skills along the way,” she said.

“People can either register in a team or on their own and then we would put them into a team.

“It’s definitely good to keep your fitness levels up too.”

The six-week program will run on Tuesday nights at the hockey fields starting on January 7, 2020.
