CRICKET: Sweltering conditions didn’t stop Warwick’s Davis Shield side from putting in a dominant performance against Stanthorpe.

Playing at home, the local side had plenty to prove after losing their first-round game against Lockyer at the end of November.

Warwick Cricket Association president and Davis Shield captain Dave Walker said there was definite improvement from the sides previous game.

“Our bowlers really bowled tight to keep the Stanthorpe batters under pressure,” Walker said.

“Luke Cullen bowled extremely well, with Sean Bryson topscoring for us at 48 runs.”

Despite the win, Walker was surprised with the low score from his side.

“I thought 199 was a bit under par for the pitch we were on,” he said.

“But our bowlers bowled tight enough to keep them to 177 after 47 overs.”

With a win under their belt, Warwick players will have confidence in their must-win game against Toowoomba.

“If we want to make the finals, that game against Toowoomba is one that we need to really perform well in,” he said.

Warwick will play Toowoomba on Sunday, January 19 in Toowoomba.

The Mitchell Shield side will play Stanthorpe at Slade Park this Sunday in a must-win game.
