‘Closest competition in years’: Warwick cricket competition heats up as finals close in.

BOWLING SUCCESS: Redbacks fall short against Sovereign despite committed effort.
BOWLING SUCCESS: Redbacks fall short against Sovereign despite committed effort.

CRICKET: It’s not often there’s a weekend of cricket as close as round 11 of the Condamine Cup.

Just one run separated two of the games with Warwick Cricket Association president Dave Walker noting the increased commitment of all teams.

“It was really hard to pick a standout player or team from the games on Saturday,” Walker said.

“I thought Sovereign’s upset over Redbacks was pretty big though, with Redbacks coming off some good wins in the last few weeks.”

Sovereign’s win helps the side edge closer to a top four position.

“Just four point separate the top four teams at the moment,” Walker said.

“This is definitely the closest competition that we’ve had in years.”

Despite the competition heating up, Maryvale had a convincing 263 run win over Wheatvale.

“Pat Bourke and Will Gordon both scored 85 for Maryvale, which definitely helped them.”

Condamine Cup round 11 scores:

Redbacks 6/142 defeated by Sovereign 2/143

Victoria Hill 97 defeated by Allora 5/98

Maryvale 5/386 defeated Wheatvale 123
