POLOCROSSE: Australia won both international against New Zealand at Counties Polocrosse Club near Auckland at the weekend.

The friendly games were played to prepare the two countries for the April 22-28 Adina Polocrosse World Cup at Morgan Park.

Australia won 30-20 in the first game and 26-14 in the second game.

Assistant coach Cameron Shepherd, of Warwick, said it was a top weekend for the national team.

"The team played well and it was good to play on unfamiliar horses,” Shepherd said.

"I was happy with the standard of the New Zealand horses, they were ideal for what we wanted.

"Beth Hafey was the most improved between the internationals at Ballarat last month and the internationals in New Zealand at the weekend”

Jim Grills and Lauren Sillitoe played the most in the No.1 positions for the men and women from Australia.

Will Weston played No.2 and No.3 for Australia, Lance Anderson played all No.3 in the Saturday game and captain Abbott Grills played in all three positions.

Anderson had a mild concussion in the game on Saturday and missed the Sunday game but will be ready for the cup.

Suzette Thomas and Beth Hafey each played No.2 and Lucy Grills played the most in the No.3 (defence) position.

Thomas also played some No.1 and Hafey some No.3 in the games at Counties club.
