NOLAN family members travelled from as far as Townsville for the inaugural Basil Nolan Memorial Shield game at Father Ranger Oval on Saturday night.

The shield will be contested by Warwick and Wattles TRL A-grade teams in the first fixture between the two sides each season.

The Barrett Shield will remain as the last trial game for each club each season.

Warwick and Wattles clubs always support the local derby and the game was even more special as it remembered past Cowboys A-grade grand final prop Basil Nolan Jr who died in a farm accident in November.

Warwick led 18-0 at halftime before Wattles pulled back to 18-12 late in the second half.

Basil Nolan Jr was a top defender and Warwick had 17 of them on Saturday night.

Winger Harry Sullivan had an accidental finger in the eye and was taken up to Warwick Hospital by private car at halftime but thought his eye felt a bit better and decided he wanted to return to the field when the shield was up for grabs.

He was planning to go back to the hospital for medical attention after the game.
