WITH a variety of entertainment on offer, the Southern Downs Steam Railway team delivered a fun time for all on Friday night.

It was the first time the historical building, built in the late 1800s, had been open to the public.

Southern Downs Steam Railway vice-president Bob Keogh said it was a terrific night with more then 60 people attending.

"There was a variety of entertainment. We had Debbie Anderson's poetry, Warwick Pipe Band with bagpipes, Jack Dwan with his sheep and sheep dogs and a bar that was well-patronised," Mr Keogh said.

Tickets included entry to the historic railway goods shed and delicious finger food with the evening drawing to a close about 9.30pm.

"It was a terrific night, with the good variety of entertainment we had which went well," Mr Keogh said.

Television personality Scott McGregor was among the special guests for the evening after accepting an invitation from the Southern Downs Steam Railway group.

The night was just the start of a busy weekend for the team, with a fully-booked train ride to Wallangarra on Saturday followed by a well-attended train ride to Hendon on Sunday.

Mr McGregor said the Warwick to Wallangarra trip is a must do for any lover of rail history.

"I feel it is one of Australia's most iconic railways," he said.

With Scott McGregor's Railway Adventures taking in railway tours around the world in search of the best, Mr McGregor said it was basically a test run for a possible future journey.

The goods shed was also open to the public yesterday, with a sausage sizzle, jumping castle, historical photographs and stationary engines available to be explored.
