Qld government to decide fate of Warwick social housing development

A newly proposed social and affordable development on the Southern Downs that includes dozens of dwellings is waiting for the green light from Queensland’s Planning Minister. Full details here.

The Southern Downs could be one step closer to achieving social and affordable housing.

Development plans submitted by Win Housing Solutions and Community Housing Ltd for social and affordable housing in Warwick could see more than 30 dwellings built.

The proposal for 9 Law Rd includes a subdivision of the existing lot, which is partly home to the UnitingCare community centre and is to be separate from the housing precinct.

Housing both two and three bedroom units, the development proposal was presented at the council community information session on March 6.

A Southern Downs council spokesman said after reviewing the report at the recent ordinary meeting, council moved to make a submission to the state Planning Minister on the concerns raised by councillors in the meeting.

Key concerns about the proposal were raised at the March 13 council meeting around infrastructure servicing, building design, parking, waste management, connectivity, flood hazard overlay and access to public transport.

The council spokesman said the submission was finalised and lodged on March 15 as part of the Ministerial Infrastructure Designation (MID) process.

The MID process is an alternative for applicants to lodging a development application with council and is decided on by the state Planning Minister.

Warwick Daily News has reached out to Win Housing Solutions and Community Housing Ltd for comment.

If approved, the Law Rd development would sit alongside Warwick Uniting Church’s affordable housing development to go ahead in Killarney.
