Meat trailer hits the highway in early morning crash

A TRAILER carrying meat overturned on the New England Highway at The Summit at 2.20am Saturday.

The Queensland Fire and Emergency Service was called to the scene and found that the prime mover was still upright but the trailer was detached and across the highway.

The 53-year-old driver from Caboolture, was out of the vehicle and not injured.

The highway was blocked in both directions. The crash was on a section of highway close to The Summit Bowls Club. The truck and trailer were heading north.

Diesel was leaking from the fuel tank and the Southern Downs Regional Council put a truck load of sand over the leak.

The council returned with a second load of sand.

One lane of the highway was opened at 7am Saturday with the Queensland Police Service and Southern Downs Regional Council doing traffic control.

The Queensland Fire and Emergency Service left the scene at 7.09am Saturday.

Two heavy haulage vehicles were brought in to remove the truck from the highway later in the morning.
