UPDATE 2.35PM: Fire fighters at Ballandean between Stanthorpe and Wallangarra may have to wait until tomorrow morning for relief from the gusty winds.
A BOM spokesman in Brisbane said the highest winds in the Warwick area were around 40km/h at 1pm.
"The winds were a little lighter at Applethorpe,” the spokesman said.
"It could remain windy overnight and into tomorrow. The wind will be stronger in more exposed areas.”
As for rain putting a fire out, that is a long shot hope.
BOM is not expecting any rain this week for the Warwick and Stanthorpe areas.
UPDATE 1.55pm: There are seven units on scene fighting a fire in vegetation near a winery at Ballandean.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency spokesman said there were four Rural Fire Service units on scene.
"We have two urban appliances from Stanthorpe and one from Warwick currently on scene,” he said.
While the QFES spokesman said they had been informed about any property being under threat.
EARLIER: A VEGETATION fire has broken out in the Sundown and Ricca Rd area at Ballandean.
The first was reported just before 11am and three Queensland Fire and Rescue Services unit were quickly on scene.
At 12.45pm, another three fire units were on the way to the Sundown Rd fire.
The QFES said at 1pm there was no threat to property.
Residents in the area are asked to keep windows and doors closed and any medication handy in case an evacution is necessary.
