The Warwick hobbyist community is mourning a leading figure who helped establish an iconic group in the motorsports space.
Warwick Kart Club’s founder Nick Marshall passed away unexpectedly last week.
“Nick was instrumental in getting the club established, and helping to make it the facility we all enjoy today. HIs contribution cannot be undervalued and will not be forgotten,” the club wrote on Facebook.
“On behalf of the committee and the club members, our thoughts and condolences go to his family, friends and all who knew and loved him.”
Warwick Kart Club president Barrie Mendelson said the club had a rich history of more than two decades, and prided itself in looking after its members.
“It’s heartbreaking news, we’re a very tight knit community and we support our own,” Mr Mendelson said.
“The people who do great support each other, we look after our own in our little community, and anything we can raise will help his young family.
“It’s the least we can do to try and help.”
A GoFundMe set up to help the family in the aftermath of the tragic news has quickly gained more than $1000 dollars in a handful of days.
“He always went above and beyond for others, rarely asking for anything in return. All this said, his two daughters were his drive and passion in life,” organiser of the fundraiser Angela Dodd said.
“Nick played a huge role in establishing the Warwick Kart Club and is highly regarded in the karting community.”
