The competition to crown this year’s best beauty therapist in Warwick was one of our fiercest, with plenty of voters eager to see their favourite win.

After recently celebrating their second birthday, the good news kept coming for Sassy Little Beauty after the business come out on top and earnt the crown of Warwick’s best beauty therapist for 2023.

Sassy Little Beauty salon owner Shakira Clarkson was humbled to win this year’s crown, coming a long way from the early days running the salon from her nan and pop’s granny flat.

“I was trying to get a job in beauty, but found it really hard to get one in Warwick and I didn’t want to move out of town just to get a job,” she said.

“(During Covid-19) I was doing it from home on friends and family, and loved it.

“So I just decided to do my own thing and I love it.”

The salon has long outgrown its granny flat days and now boasts an impressive space in the Milk Tanker Building on Victoria St.

In true girl boss style, Ms Clarkson’s ambition and flare for her many different services makes her stand out from the rest and the convenient location of her salon is a bonus too.

“I offer a lot of different services (other salons) in town don’t and (our location) is also not right in the middle of town which everyone seems to like,” she said.

“(And) how quiet and easy parking is and they’re not right in the hub of Warwick.”

Knowing all too well how it feels to take a leap of faith and go out on your own, Ms Clarkson’s advice to young women wanting to start their own business is to not let fear get in the way.

“Just go for it, work hard and see what happens,” she said.

Sassy Little Beauty offers a range of services from spray tans, lash extensions and enhancement, facial waxing, cosmetic tattooing, facials and micodermabrasion.
