One of the Southern Downs’ oldest businesses is up for grabs for less than the cost of a house with its owners saying “they’ll still be found around town”.
Warwick’s Belle Vue Cafe on Palmerin St has been slinging coffees and food for more than 100 years.
Owned and operated by husband and wife duo Rosie and Mark Favero since 2012, the cafe has been a major drawcard to the CBD area, especially during winter months.
The listing for the business, by Southern Downs Realty, shows the asking price for the business as $189,000 plus GST.
Mark Favero said running two businesses (the cafe and deli, Pickle and Must) has caused the pair to want to focus on the latter as they originally intended to do.
“We were always going to do the deli originally but it never really happened, and it feels like the right time to solely focus on that,” Mr Favero said.
It’s a relief to Southern Downs locals that the family isn’t going anywhere, with their two businesses attracting a cult-following of loyal customers.
“We’ve got plenty of regulars and we like knowing people by name and getting close with them, as well as our staff. There’s been ups and downs and challenges over 12 years, but a lot of good memories,” Mr Favero said.
“It’s hard to pick, but relationships between staff and the customers is one of my favourite things, and it’s been really nice to have good friendships with people on both sides of the counter.
“It’s exciting because new people will bring their fresh ideas to the place, and I’m excited to see what happens.”
Mr Favero had been running the kitchen at the Gunyah Restaurant on and off for 13 years and decided it was time to follow their dream of opening their own place before moving north to the Downs in March of 2012.
The business has served “generations of great customers” with a strong local following, and has been rated the number one business on TripAdvisor for the past five years.
The business features a “new fit out, with modern equipment and facilities” and says that the “owners will help with a smooth transition,” the listing says.
“We’re well and truly concreted into the community, and we have no plans of going anywhere anytime soon,” he said.
“It’s been around for over 100 years, the building was built in 1913, and the cafe has been going since the building was here, so it’ll be good to see what happens next, the next chapter.”
You’ll still be able to catch Mark around town at sister-store Pickle and Must, located at 103 Palmerin St.
