A Brisbane radio star will swap his microphone for more time on television, marking the fourth major voice departing the airwaves in one month.
Peter “Salty” Psaltis said it was a tough call to step away from radio after nearly three decades behind the mic, but one he was very comfortable with.
The long-time 4BC host on Monday revealed he would finish up at the station after 24 years and shift his focus to television commentary.
It follows the exits of Robin Bailey, Corey Oates and Kip Wightman from the breakfast slot on KIIS 97.3, replaced by Craig ‘Lowie’ Low in late October.
Psaltis was appointed host of 4BC’s Wide World of Sports when the program was brought to the station in late 2020, and has hosted the hour-long weeknight show from 6pm to 7pm ever since.
Psaltis’ last show will take place on December 4.
Speaking of his decision to step away after 29 years on radio, he said it he will continue to cover major sporting events on TV, including the Summer of Tennis, Winter Olympics, NRL and the NRWL.
“I’m really looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead there, but I’m going to miss this place,” he said.
“There’s so many people to thank for their support in over 29 years of radio, 24 of which has been at 4BC.
“I’ll thank some of them properly tonight on the radio show and when I finish.”
Brisbane city councillor Greg Adermann wished Psaltis well, and said the radio host would excel at his other passion.
“Congratulations on an outstanding career at 4BC mate and probably a good time to step away,” he said.
More changes could be coming in radio before the year ends, including at Nova’s breakfast team amid rumours of a return to Brisbane for Nick “Ducko” Allen-Ducat.
