Heartbreaking reason no one RSVPd to little boy’s birthday

The mum of a five-year-old boy who had no one RSVP for his birthday party has revealed the devastating reason why.

‘Vegan bullies’ snub 4yo’s birthday party over ‘no cow’ cake

Vegans will rally around a Moreton Bay region four-year-old whose birthday party invites received no RSVP’s from his school mates because there will be “no cow” in his cake.

Angel Craine, 27, of Scarborough, posted in the Vegans in Australia Facebook group asking if anyone from Brisbane’s northside would like to come to her son Malachi’s fifth birthday party.

“My four-year-old son seems to get bullied a lot for being vegan,” she wrote.

“Apparently none of his friends want to come to his birthday if he has a vegan cake and are always being rude about him being a vegan all the time.”

“I just can’t get over that kids his age already bully vegans.”

A lover of animals and of Pokemon, Malachi is throwing a Pokemon party in a park, he said he hoped it would be one near the beach so he can collect shells to gift to any turtles he might run into.

Ms Craine has been vegan for a year and a half, and her two sons for 10 months, since then Malachi has been taunted.

“He came from school and said everyone is picking on him and they don’t want to come to his birthday if he’s going to have a vegan cake,” she said.

“Yeah he seems to get picked on a lot for being vegan at his school … I put invites out for his birthday two weeks ago and it hasn’t got any replies yet.”

It hasn’t dispelled the young boy’s commitment to a plant based diet.

“I like to be vegan, because mum took me to a farm and I didn’t want to eat the chickens,” he said.

“They (kids at school) want me to have animals in my cake, like cows, but I want a vegan cake and they be rude to me at school because they ask me if I can have animal cow cake.”

Ms Craine said it was the “the animals” that inspired her to commit to a plant based diet.

“I’d been thinking about it a long time and once I started, I’m just not looking back,” she said.

Since taking the vegan journey it has not just been his school buddies who have taken issue, with family members also not respecting her decision.

“They tried to feed my younger son fish and lied to him that it was plant based,” she said.

While she has gotten used to people being “judgmental” about her choice, the social isolation her son experiences has been hurtful for them both.

“And I think it’s the parents, they’re judgmental and its 2023, like, vegans aren’t rare and if anyone should be judging it should be me to the meat eaters,” she said.

“But I don’t.”

No matter if any kids from Malachi’s school come to his party, Ms Craine said 12 vegan kids who responded to her call out have committed to coming and enjoying a slice of his vegan cake.
