Delays continue south of Brisbane on Wednesday afternoon after a truck trailer overturned and spilt 20,000 litres of hydrogen peroxide.
A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said the clean-up was likely to continue until 3pm.
The incident occurred on Compton Rd near the Gateway Motorway southbound exit at Kuraby just after 6am.
Up to 15 emergency services crews were working to clear the spill of hydrogen peroxide.
A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said a one kilometre exclusion zone was in place downwind of the incident while crews continue work to right the vehicle and clean up the spill.
“This is expected to take several hours. Motorists and pedestrians should avoid the area,” a spokesman said.
The spokesman said at 8.50am crews were cleaning up a spillage of “dangerous goods” that seeped from containers the truck was carrying.
“The corrosive liquid leaked and there was smoke as it hit the tarmac,” a spokesman said.
“Crews are working to clean it up with a chemical absorbent due to the nature of the spilt chemical,” he said.
The crash occurred in the westbound lanes towards Sunnybank with all lanes blocked and traffic diverted at Acacia Rd.
The driver was not injured.
