Three people have been arrested after trying to flee police in a stolen car at high speeds before dumping the vehicle and running into bushland north of Brisbane.

Police first became aware of the stolen Nissan Patrol station wagon around 3.30pm on Tuesday in the Upper Kedron area, with allegations one person in the vehicle had a knife.

The vehicle was tracked by Polair travelling north allegedly at speed towards the Sunshine Coast, before a tyre deflation device was successfully deployed in Cooroy.

The Nissan stopped a short time later near the Bruce Highway in Cooroy and two passengers, a man and woman, fled into bushland before being arrested nearby.

The vehicle kept driving north into Federal before it came to a stop in bushland near the Old Bruce Highway.

The male driver left the scene on foot, before being arrested nearby about 5.40pm.

After the vehicle stopped it caught fire and caused a grass fire. It was quickly extinguished by emergency crews.

Two men and a woman in their 20s have been arrested. No charges have been laid.

The Nissan was originally stolen from an address at Murarrie earlier on Tuesday afternoon.

Investigations are ongoing and anyone with information that can assist, is urged to contact police.
