Toowoomba shooting: Ute at centre of shooting drama as cops call for witnesses

Police have released more details, including pictures of a ute, as they call for witnesses to a dramatic incident in Toowoomba that has left a man fighting for his life after he was shot in the head while inside his car.

Police have released images of a vehicle they believe is linked a shooting in Toowoomba that has left a man fighting for his life.

Paramedics were called to a Coonan Street address about 2.50am on Tuesday where they found the 24-year-old man who had been shot in the head.

He was taken to Toowoomba Hospital before being transferred to Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition.

Investigations revealed the man was linked to a Mitsubishi Lancer sedan located on the northbound lanes of Ruthven Street at the time paramedics responded.

Further investigations suggest a Nissan Patrol, stolen from Felton early on Wednesday morning, is linked to the incident.

The Nissan Patrol, with Queensland registration 01 LAP, was located by police at the corner of Mahogany Street and Poinciana Street in Toowoomba on Wednesday afternoon.

Darling Downs Detective Acting Inspector Paul McCusker on Tuesday said police inquiries suggest the victim knew his attackers, and that multiple round were fired at the Mitsubishi sedan during the shooting.

“These things are a great concern to police, it doesn’t matter where they occur in the community, when there are persons driving in the streets and discharging rounds it has a great risk of someone being shot who may be going about their normal day-to-day business,” Acting Inspector McCusker said.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots at the time of the shooting.

“This is not a random attack,” he said.

Police are also investigating the involvement of a white Ford Range dual cab utility which was located burnt out at Felton shortly before 5am.

Detectives are appealing to anyone who saw the vehicle or has relevant dashcam vision to contact police.
