Whether you are a traditionalist or a luxe-bun eater, some of South East Queensland’s best bakeries and patisseries have you covered this Easter.
Here are the five southeast hot cross buns you need to try.
Bam Bam Bakehouse
As one of the Gold Coast’s most iconic bakeries, Bam Bam Bakehouse is dishing up the goods for Easter this year with some seriously impressive hot cross bun options.
Forget plastic chick and foam egg-adorned Easter bonnets at a school parade and opt instead for the Bam Bam Bakehouse Easter Bonnet.
This hefty brioche bun, lovingly coated in special cinnamon spice mixed and oozing with glorious Biscoff mousseline, is to die for.
For those with a slightly smaller appetite, you can’t go past their signature brioche hot cross buns, available in traditional, chocolate, custard and choc caramel flavours – the fluffiest choice around.

Jocelyn’s Provisions
Jocelyn’s Provisions is a stalwart in the sea of patisseries to have opened in our capital over the decades, and it has survived for good reason.
First opened in 1996 and now boasting three venues across Brisbane – Albion, James St and Camp Hill – this artisan bakery never fails to dish up the goods.
Filled buns seem to be the trend of the year and you can bet JPs has hit the nail on the head with filled twists on classic and chocolate hot cross buns.
Spice lovers can rejoice in the traditional fruit buns, loaded with a spiced cardamom cream, while us sweet tooths can indulge in the ultraluxe chocolate cream filled buns – hands down our top buns in Brisbane.

Baker D Chirico
From the far southern shores of Melbourne comes Baker D Chirico, named so for owner Daniel Chirico, who launched his brand in 2001 in St Kilda.
In 2024, he brought his long-planned Sunshine State venue to life, opening in the Long Island development in Newstead and now dishing up some of the most in-demand Easter treats around.
Its signature traditional and chocolate hot cross buns are good, old Aussie crossies done well. The bakery has also joined forces with nearby La Macelleria Gelateria in Teneriffe for an epic Easter twist on an ice-cream sandwich, featuring hot cross bun gelato served inside a Baker D Chirico hot cross bun. Divine!

Agnes Bakery
Everything the Anyday Group touches seems to turn to gold and their traditional sourdough hot cross buns are no exception.
Taking the classic hot cross concept and levelling it up with their signature sourdough
expertise, Agnes Bakery’s buns boast the perfect blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, currants, raisins and, of course, a dash of their super-secret spice mix.
Sounds pretty standard, but one bite into these pillowy parcels of sourdough goodness will leave you a convert, like thousands of Agnes visitors before you.
If you really want the full experience, slice these bad boys in half, toast them and top them with the bakery’s housemade smoked butter.

Darvella Patisserie
If you had to crown the ‘it girl’ of Brisbane’s bakery scene, it would be Darvella.
From mid-day cafe raves to the sweetest baby cakes and delectable baked goods galore, this little hole in the wall spot is setting ALL the trends, and its Easter offering is right on par.
Darvella’s Kinder Bueno and Raspberry Velvet filled hot cross buns are the must-try Easter
treat of 2025.
These not-so-little bites are perfectly dense bundles jam-packed with sweet creamy filling in decadent flavours that will have you craving more.
Darvella is one of a number of iconic Brisbane venues headed by Giorgina Venzin of Venzin Group, including Woolloongabba’s Pawpaw and Citron Bayside.
