A Sunshine Coast hinterland suburb could soon have a retirement village and supermarket combo pending council approval.
Woolworths Group lodged the proposal to the Noosa Council in May this year.
The plans include a “village-style” Woolworths supermarket, specialty retail tenancies and an alfresco dining area alongside the aged-care facility compromising of 126 residencies.
The complex will be at 124 Myall St, Cooroy.
A Woolworths spokesman labelled the site a “convenient location” for residents.
The spokesman said the retirement village would not be constructed or managed by their franchise upon receiving council approval.
Following a consultation process of door knocking, flyers and an online survey, results showed community members were eager for an aged-care facility to be established.
The spokesman said the new supermarket would create hundreds of job opportunities and “contribute positively to Cooroy”.
The proposal is a first for the group by providing a retirement village in favour of catering towards the community’s preferences.
It is proposed the Woolworths supermarket complex will provide 250 car parks, eight direct to boot service bays and a design with rooftop solar panels and rainwater harvesting.
“We look forward to working with Noosa Shire Council over the coming months, and will continue to update the community as we progress,” the spokesman said.
