The hospitality duo behind the revival of an iconic Noosa nightclub have revealed their big plans for the late-night venue as they receive an “overwhelmingly positive” outpouring of support from the local community.

Owners Jonathan Page and Ian Banks, who goes by Banksy, first met in 2015 while working together at another Noosa venue.

Mr Page said the night the pair met naturally ended at the former Rolling Rock nightclub on Hastings St, with the nightclub’s new name, The Rock, paying homage to the longstanding venue.

“Banksy said why don’t we just call it The Rock, everyone still calls it that anyway, even when it briefly changed to Aqua for a while, whenever someone was talking about this venue they would just call it The Rock,” Mr Page said.

Mr Page said they had big plans for the venue as they look to cater for a wide range of functions and occasions.

“There is lots we want to achieve for the venue to be a more well-rounded business, but it is just baby steps at this stage,” Mr Page said.

“We want to serve all occasions, all events and functions, it is unique in that aspect.

“If we can re-imagine what that venue is rather than a one-trick pony, we want to cater birthday parties, corporate functions and hospitality events.”

Numbers at the venue’s soft launch last weekend were “much higher than expected”, according to Mr Page.

Mr Banks said the Noosa community needed The Rock to return as a night-life venue just as much as he and Mr Page were keen to start their own business.

“I think the town needs it as much as we wanted to start a business,” Mr Banks said.

“The town really needs that late-night venue and people do come to Noosa for a bit of night-life, people from Peregian and Coolum, if there is no night-life they’ll stop coming up here.

“It is as important for the town to get the venue back as it was for us to start the venture.”

Both Mr Banks and Mr Page said the feedback from the community so far was “overwhelmingly positive”.

The Rock is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 8pm to 2am.
