With the Sunshine Coast cricket season finished for the regular season and the two-day finals soon to get underway, we’ve uncovered our first grade team of the season.

There were a number of standouts with bat, ball and gloves this season with only two players from last year's team earning back-to-back selections.

Caboolture’s Glen Batticciotto was knocked off his perch this season by Nambour’s Steven Ledger after finishing as the competition’s leading run scorer for the past three straight seasons,

The veteran Cutters stalwart said he was proud of his efforts but was most excited for the silverware still up for grabs.

“It’s always nice to score runs, no doubt about that but my biggest takeaway has been how well we’ve performed as a team,” he said.

“It’s been a long finals hiatus for our side in first grade so there’s no denying we’ve had some real battles but it’s great to see the hard work has paid off.

“We just had a great team collective this season, some new players coming in, some returning guys and some younger players that brought a new perspective to how we went about things on the field,” he said.

“We’re really excited to be back in the semi finals, hopefully we see some good weather and can put up a good fight.”

The division’s leading wicket-taker, Glasshouse captain Joel Owen, said the season was a major turning point for his side.

Glasshouse finished bottom of the table with just two wins last season but flipped the script in 24/25 with seven wins and seven losses, securing a spot in the one day finals and finishing a narrow fifth overall.

“It was a good year for us as a team especially considering how we went the year before,” Owen said.

“Our goal this year was to get into the finals which we narrowly missed out on. There were some results throughout the year where we stuffed up but some as well due to the weather unfortunately.”

Owen, who finished with 36 wickets, said it was a great season as a whole with a number of standout players.

“I’m not one for massive self praise but I went alright with the ball,” he said.

“It’s always nice to contribute, I felt I was a lot more consistent with the ball by building pressure.

“Steven Ledger was great once again, he scored two hundreds against us in the three times we played Nambour so he clearly loves playing Glasshouse.

“Michael Eckard from Tewantin-Noosa was right up there with the bat and ball so he’s had a great overall season.

“Then the other that comes to mind is Brad Teske from Caboolture. He wasn’t really playing cricket two or three years ago but has scored a few hundreds this season and was great in the finals.”

Teske finished the season with 409 from his 15 innings but on top of that was the leading batter in the T20 and one day finals, scoring 263 runs in his three innings.

Ahead of the two-day semi finals this weekend, where Maroochydore will host Nambour and Tewantin-Noosa will host Caboolture, here is our first grade team of the season.

Note: The team was selected across all 2024/25 formats and all statistics are from the regular season fixtures only.
