EARLIER: A Sunshine Coast worker is one of two people who have tested positive for Covid-19 in the community in Queensland overnight.
Queensland has recorded three new cases of Covid-19, including two cases of community transmission, in the past 24 hours.
Chief health officer Dr Jeannette Young said the person who worked on the Sunshine Coast was the partner of a woman who worked at DFO at Brisbane Airport.
She said health officials didn’t believe the DFO worker contracted the virus while at work because they were known to friends of some of the people who attended the Portuguese restaurant linked to other Covid positive tests.
Dr Young said the worker had no symptoms and was tested because of the positive case at DFO.
She said the person had been to many venues in Queensland, including gyms and shopping centres.
The worker’s partner, who works at the Sunshine Coast, has also tested positive after developing symptoms on June 23.
Dr Young said she understood that person had also been in the community while infectious since June 21.
Authorities are yet to announce a list of locations for where the two new cases visited during their infectious period.
Meanwhile, the New Zealand Government has suspended all travel to Australia amid growing concerns about the Covid clusters.
It means Air New Zealand’s first flight from Auckland to land on Sunshine Coast Airport’s new runway, scheduled for Monday, 28 June, has been cancelled.
Sunshine Coast Airport spokeswoman Ayllie White said it was to be the first commercial international flight to land on the $334 million runway.
“This is very disappointing for the airport, the airline and our passengers,” Ms White said.
“At this stage, it is planned to operate the scheduled service on Wednesday 30 June, subject to quarantine free travel recommencing.”
Premier Anastasia Palaszczuk said the new cases were not the Delta variant, which is responsible for the outbreak that has sent Sydney into a two week lockdown.
New restrictions are also set to be introduced across Queensland after the Sydney cluster expanded.
Pubs, clubs and cafes will revert to the one person per two square metres rule, while private gatherings at homes will be limited to no more than 100 people, including children and infants.
The restrictions will last as long as the Sydney lockdown is in place.
There are currently 40 active cases in Queensland.
Ms Palaszczuk said no one should travel to NSW during school holidays, and anyone currently in the state should rethink their plans.
More information to come.
