Gold Coast father and son training duo Toby and Trent Edmonds are excited to see what their stable’s leading chances can do at the Queensland Winter Carnival with an aim for the Sunshine Coast Caloundra Cup race-day on July 2.
The Winter Carnival, which began on April 30, will host eight Group 1 features and dish out more than $21m in prize money across Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ipswich and Sunshine Coast race tracks.
On top of that, the Caloundra Cup race day has received a further boost in funding, with more than $1m on offer across the entire card.
Edmonds said his stable’s three-year-0ld filly Burning Bell would be the one to keep an eye on following her hat-trick victory at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday, May 22.
“She’s a good filly with a nice future and one that is progressing nicely,” Toby Edmonds said.
“She should be able to get through to Saturday company pretty quickly.
“There’s normally a quality three-year-old race on Caloundra Cup Day so possibly we will look at that one for her.”
Sunday’s win took Burning Bell’s prize money earnings past the $100,000 mark from just four starts, which is an excellent return on the $38,000 On Track Thoroughbreds paid for her at the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale.

The Group 1 winning pair, who sits in the top 10 on the metropolitan trainers standings, hoped their strong record at the Sunshine Coast could continue across the coming months.
“We love the Sunny Coast, it’s the best track in the Country nearly,” Edmonds said.
“It’s a little bit far away but that’s not an issue as we have good luck when we go there and it has such a good layout.”
Edmonds said the main focus remained on Alpine Edge after a sixth-place finish in the Doomben 10,000 on May 14.
“Obviously Alpine Edge is our flag horse for this season at the moment so hopefully he can get through to a race like the Stradbroke and see how we go there,” he said.
