Sunshine Coast Daily Cup started a strong connection

On Thursday, July 25, 1985, the Sunshine Coast Daily Cup was held at 3.10pm for a purse of $25,500.

RACING: The Sunshine Coast Turf Club opened its gates to the public in July 1985 with a crowd of 14,000 in attendance.

From the very first day, the Sunshine Coast Daily supported the racing industry.

On Thursday, July 25, 1985, the Sunshine Coast Daily Cup was held at 3.10pm for a purse of $25,500.

Although during the years there have been many changes in management at both the Sunshine Coast Daily and the Sunshine Coast Turf Club there remains a strong and successful bond.

The Sunshine Coast Turf Club is officially named Corbould Park after its former owner Edward Corbould.

As far as memories go, it’s hard to go past the race that took place in 2015 with a mare called Winx taking out the Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m and paying $2.70) in convincing style coming from last place at the turn to take out the race – passing 17 other horses.

This began Winx’s career winning streak of 33 races, including 25 Group 1s.

The construction and handover of the on-course stables, synthetic track and lighting that allows night racing were also highlights and major infrastructure projects that allowed the SCTC to provide a better quality racing product to a wider audience through night racing.

During the past 35 years, the Sunshine Coast Daily has supported the SCTC via race sponsorship, media coverage and as a 100 club sponsor from its inception in 2000.
