After a thrilling few months, the Sunshine Coast cricket 2022/23 team of the season can now be revealed ahead of this weekend’s finals.

This year’s Sunshine Coast cricket season is coming to a close with senior grand finals to be played on March 25.

The division one competition has featured a number of standout performers with Maroochydore’s Luke McInnes and Caboolture’s Preston White tying for most wickets in the regular season with 51.

With the bat it was again Glen Batticciotto from Caboolture who topped the charts scoring a whopping 981 runs and averaging 61.31 across all formats.

“I’ve enjoyed it, it’s been pretty tough conditions this year with a lot of the wickets difficult to bat on so I’ve enjoyed the challenge,” Batticciotto said.

“It’s always a bonus to finish with a decent amount of runs at the end of the year but it’s never enough, you always want more.”

Batticciotto said the rivalry between the competition’s top teams had been good.

“I think there’s always a really good rivalry between Maroochydore, Caboolture and Noosa,” Batticciotto said.

“As we’re kind of the top three teams, it’s been a really good and fair battle.”

McInnes said he was proud of his efforts with the ball this season.

“I’m pretty stoked to have a good season with the ball,” he said.

“The start of the season was a bit slow in the bowling department where I only managed 20 odd wickets in white ball formats, but when red ball cricket came I started to bowl long spells and had the chance to work over batsmen.

“I enjoy that side of bowling.”

The 26-year-old said two individual performances and the growth from the Coolum senior men’s side had been the standout moments for him this season.

“Some stand out performances we had this season, you can’t go past Matthew Watson’s white ball form,“ he said.

“With 419 runs at an average of 38.00, he won us a few games with the bat and just his confidence at the crease helped others around him.

“Another stand out performance was from our skipper Blaine Schloss when he guided our team home with a big 195 against Glasshouse.

“Talking about good performances as a team, I think Coolum had an amazing season where they only missed out on making finals by four points.

“It’s always good to see a new team do well and knock off a few good teams throughout the season.”

A handful of star performers from the 2021/22 team of the season have made their case for back-to-back selection with a further six players breaking into the side for the first time.

After ranking all 2256 batters and all 1889 bowlers from the junior and senior divisions this year, here is our 2022/23 Men’s Division one team of the season.

The team was selected across all 2022/23 formats and all statistics are from the regular season.

After just missing out on selection, well earned honourable mentions go to Thomas White (Gympie), Nathan Van Eekeren (Glasshouse) and Jackson Mills (Caboolture) for their efforts this season.
