Stuart Kendrick names leading four runners aimed for Caloundra Cup Day

Top of the table Sunshine Coast and Queensland Provincial trainer Stuart Kendrick has outlined a ‘handful’ of his stables key chances ahead of the Caloundra Cup Day.

The Queen has been a ‘great ambassador’ for horse racing

Leading Sunshine Coast and Queensland Provincial trainer Stuart Kendrick has named his stable’s best chances ahead of Caloundra Cup race day on July 2.

With more than $1m on offer across the entire card, Kendrick hoped a number of his stable’s leading runners could perform well on home soil to round out the Queensland Winter Carnival.

The five-time consecutive Sunshine Coast premiership trainer said he was proud of his stable’s three-year-old gelding and leading hope, Maximum Output, after he booked his slot in the Winter Provincial Sprinters Final following a solid win at the Gold Coast on Saturday, June 11.

“It was a really good win on the weekend and that was the plan as we sort of freshened him up to try and get into the final,” Kendrick said.

“I think we’ve won that race a couple of times and it would be nice to win it again as it is good prize money and he looks the perfect horse for it.”

Kendrick, who currently leads the provincial standings by 14 wins, said he was excited for a ‘handful’ of his top chances in the lead up to Caloundra Cup Day.

“We’ve got a few races that we’re going to target and there’s a couple of two-year-olds that will start in the next week who will show us whether they’ll be up to running in that strong two-year-old race on Cup Day,” he said.

“Avolonte won well last start and she’s always been a filly with plenty of ability.

“It was a strong performance the other day so at this stage she will have one more run before we freshen her back up for that three-year-old 1000m sprint on Caloundra Cup Day.

“Wilmot Pass, who is a nice little consistent horse that won pretty convincingly here on Sunday, will be aimed for the Benchmark 14000m on Cup Day and hopefully Star Of Michelin will go in the 1800m race too.

“So we’ve got a handful chances there along with even Bonaparte and Checkers who are in qualifying races for that sprint final as well.”

With Kendrick recording 11 winners from the past month, he said it had been a successful run of form against top quality opposition.

“Especially because at this time of the year it’s getting pretty hard with horses coming up from down south as well as a lot of these satellite stables with the likes of Annabel Neasham, Chris Waller and Kris Lees so there’s plenty of competition and I think if you can win races anywhere at the moment you’re doing pretty well,” he said.
