EXCLUSIVE: Sunshine Coast's own pocket rocket, Olympic boxer Brad Hore has confirmed he is making a return to the ring and is eyeing off a Commonwealth Games medal.

Hore, a dual Olympian who boxed at the 2000 and 2004 Games, told the Daily his clearance had come back late last month, after he applied three months ago for a shot at returning to the amateur ranks.

Hore turned professional in 2012, at the age of 31, having already fought at two Olympic Games and two Commonwealth Games.

Professionals are allowed to return to the amateur ranks for next year's Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

Hore said he expected to cop some flak for the decision, having been an amateur, but after consulting with his family and coaches, he decided the opportunity to achieve his dream of a Commonwealth Games medal was too good to pass up.

He will fight at the State Titles in three weeks, needing a top-2 finish, then Gold at the national titles, to qualify for the Games.
