Husband and wife team Dallas and Adam Simpson have relished the start of their new Sunshine Coast racing stable with wins at both provincial and metropolitan level.
Adam, 23 and Dallas, 29 first worked together in South Australia under Tony McEvoy before they moved to Caulfield and then relocated to Queensland in 2020.
“Just before we moved up here we got engaged and we were both looking at going down the same path of training so it was just the right thing to do to go out on our own,” they said.
They spent six months on the Gold Coast before getting their training licenses and settling on a 60 acre farm in Yandina, Sunshine Coast.
“We’ve been here about three months, we’ve got about 30 horses, 22 boxes, 25 paddocks, day yards, a water walker and a dry walker,” Mr Simpson said.
“It’s been pretty good, 12 months ago we were on another property and when we moved into town it changed our dynamics of training so now we’re back on the farm the results are showing for us.”
This season the duo recorded three wins and two placings from 14 starts which included Miss Divine Em’s first place in the Pink Ribbon Cup on the Gold Coast.
The Simpsons said they were thankful for the support they received.
“We just take everything on board, you watch a lot of trainers from young trainers like James Healey to group one and experienced trainers like David Vandyke so we just listen and learn from everyone,” they said.
“You can learn something from every horse, from every run and then even jockey wise there’s a mix of senior and young apprentice jockeys that you can learn off as well.
“It was great for both of us to work for those various big and small stables so that you can take a leaf out of everyone's book and hopefully write our own story.”
Mr Simpson named two of his stable’s key chances.
“Miss Divine Em is probably our best horse in the stable and then Dunoon, since he’s come up from New South Wales there’s a win not far away,” he said.
