Serenity Close’s Noosa Calile resort plan opens for public feedback

The developer behind the luxury Calile Hotel hopes to build a resort in Noosa Heads and has taken the next step in the development application process.

Residents can have their say on a luxury Noosa Heads resort proposed by the developers of an exclusive Brisbane hotel.

Calile Malouf Investments, which is behind Brisbane’s The Calile Hotel, has lodged plans with the Noosa Council for a 2.4ha resort.

The application comprises 178 rooms, 12 suites and 15 villas at Serenity Close in Noosa Heads.

The plan has opened for community feedback after the developer submitted amended proposal, earthworks and traffic impact plans at the request of the state government, along with an ecological assessment report.

The state development, infrastructure, local government and planning department requested more information about the ferry service the developer proposed would transport guests to Hastings St.

In response, the developer stated that the ferry service was an “additional transport option being explored for the development” and was “not intended to form” part of the development approval.

“Details and confirmation of the proposed ferry have not been finalised at this stage,” it stated.

Calile Malouf Investments director Cal Malouf said the approval process for the ferry was separate from the planning approval process for the resort.

“Early discussions with council have been very positive as the ferry provides a car free solution to transport guests to Hastings St, which is very much in line with council’s transport objectives,” he said.

The director said The Calile Noosa would be the first significant five-star resort to be built on the Sunshine Coast in more than 30 years.

“This will be delivered on a site designated by Noosa Council for this purpose,” he said.

“We believe there is a need for short-term resort product in Noosa and hope that it will alleviate the reliance on private residential stock to fill this demand.”

The next step of the development application process, community feedback, comes as the Noosa Council postponed its vote on a $50m, 106-room five-star hotel at Noosa Springs last month.

Noosa Springs owner GH Australia requested the council postpone the vote so they could have more time to convince councillors of the project’s merits.

Councillors voted unanimously against the plan in a general committee meeting despite the advice of Noosa Council staff.

Mr Malouf said he had “no comment” on the Noosa Springs’ application.

“We are only concerned with our application and ensuring we deliver the best possible outcome for Noosa,” he said.
