THERE was an air of expectancy at 4 River Gums, 3 Russell St, Noosaville on Saturday morning as a crowd of about 60 filled the waterfront penthouse apartment.
Richard Locke of Tom Offermann Real Estate was expecting a good auction after the interest shown in December in a lower-floor apartment in the tightly-held complex of five.
That event attracted 10 registered bidders and sold for $1.75m.
On Saturday auctioneer Gordon Macdonald encouraged the crowd in from the balcony and the intimate outlook of the Noosa River.
There were late registrations but an opening of $750,000 was described as "optimistic''.
That brought an immediate response of $1.7m with the phone bidder on the right and then a third party entered the fray at $1.8.
New interest came in at $1.850m which saw a battle between left and right.
"We call for $2m,'' the auctioneer said.
"On right, the auctioneer thanks you.
"Front and centre, your presence is quite felt.
"A wonderful move, a wonderful location.
"I'm happy to accept another 5.''
At that point the auction was paused and it resulted in an increased bid from the phone to $2.025 and the property declared on the market. Sold.
"We had five registered bidders,'' Richard Locke said, "the buyer from Brisbane was no surprise as he appeared the strongest throughout the program.''
