Rejuvenated Beerwah to have the kennel barking

A rejuvenated Beerwah has recovered from a ‘tumultuous’ off-season and now buoyed by new signings can bring the bark back to the ‘Wah Bar’.

RUGBY LEAGUE: A rejuvenated Beerwah Bulldogs have recovered from a "tumultuous" off-season and now buoyed by new signings can bring the bark back to the famous "Wah Bar".

The Bulldogs were grand finalists in 2018, beaten at the death 90 seconds from the title but then in 2019 crashed out of the finals in straight sets.

The capitulation meant something was amiss.

Gone is coach Nathan Hughes and a new committee has been established with a cluster of high-profile recruits bringing confidence and fresh faces.

Instrumental half Jordan Meads will captain and coach the side, determined to bring the club back to the glory days.

Meads said he owed it to the community and the club to bring back the silverware.

"It was a pretty tumultuous start to pre-season but we are back on track now," Meads said.

"There are so many old timers here who would love a premiership. We owe it to them."

A core group key players have also vowed to return culture and pride in the jersey - players like Sam Humphreys, Missy-Lee Pauga, Jordan Bain and Taoi Rio.

"We will start the season as underdogs, we're not hiding from the fact we're still behind some of the other teams, but we are motivated," Meads said.

"Beerwah always has a packed house and it's an amazing feeling there on a Saturday night in front of the Wah Bar.

"We thrive there and no one likes playing us at home."

Exciting recruits include former Sunshine Coast Falcons Colts prop Wyatt Reynolds to add power to the engine room, CQ Capra Jyde Dwyer, former Bulldog Junior Crawford, local junior Daniel Marjanovic and Coast journeyman Rueben Baillie.

Reynolds, bizarrely comes from an NRL system and pre-season with the Canterbury Bulldogs whose season is on hold with the pandemic.

Rather than sit out a season, he requested a release to join the club for the rebuild.

"This pre-season I have learned more than I ever have in my career. But in retrospect I didn't achieve anything close to what I wanted to.

"But the year is not a write off. Far from it."

Meads said if Wyatt remained at the club long term they "haven't done their job properly".

"He is a huge signing for us," Meads said.

"It's not often, maybe never been done, that an NRL-contracted player has joined Beerwah."

"I've never played there, but heard great things about, especially the atmosphere and the fans too," Reynolds said about his new home.

"They've given me an opportunity to get back into it. I honestly can't wait for it."

An "X factor" signing, Baillie comes across the arch rivals Stanley River but said he was raring to join the kennel.

"I've had a few brutal clashes with the doggies boys so I thought I'd come down and see what the fuss is all about. Can't wait for the season," Baillie said
