A Mooloolaba-based health food franchise has quietly closed the doors on multiple cafes, including its popular Noosa, Peregian Beach and flagship stores.

Raw Energy, which first opened in Coolum Beach more than 20 years ago, became a franchise under the guidance of Sunshine Coast businessman, Matt Hope.

The original store was founded by Geoff Campbell, with Mr Hope previously telling this publication he had bought 100 per cent of company from Mr Campbell by 2016.

During that same year, Mr Hope opened up four new Raw Energy stores within four months.

By 2018 there were a total of 15 Raw Energy stores located in south east Queensland, popping up in Brisbane and Toowoomba, offering a range of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free menu options.

Multiple stores including the Gympie Tce store in Noosaville as well as the Peregian Beach, Coolum Beach and Maroochydore stores have now been closed down.

A social media post in a local community page regarding the store closures drew plenty of comments from regular cafe-goers.

“I’m personally so sad about Raw Noosa! It was my 2nd office. Beautiful position, lots of space, lovely staff and food, quiet and peaceful,” one commenter said.

Another described the closures as being “sad for the owners”.

Australian Securities and Investments Commission documents stated Mr Hope is the director of Raw Energy Headquarters Pty Ltd located in Mooloolaba.

Mr Hope is also the CEO at the franchise management firm Colour Capital Pty Ltd, based in Mooloolaba.

According to ASIC records the company, Raw Energy Headquarters, operated a total of seven health food stores including venues at Noosaville, Coolum Beach, Peregian and Cotton Tree.

The company, which was established in 2011, also operated two Raw Energy businesses in Brisbane City.

The Raw Energy store in Kippa-Ring, Moreton Bay is not a business under the headquarters company and continues to trade.

Mr Hope and Colour Capital have been contacted for comment.
