OVER 50s living provider Palm Lake Resort is set to expand to the Sunshine Coast after approval was given to build 276 villas and a 120-bed aged care facility.

The facility will be built at 313 Caloundra Rd, near the intersection with Caloundra Mooloolaba Rd at Little Mountain.

Palm Lake Resort currently manages 25 retirement communities throughout Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.

Sunshine Coast Council approved a development application last week to build Palm Lake Resort Caloundra over 50s resort and Palm Lake Care Caloundra.

Plans submitted in the application in December last year showed the layout on a 20ha site that bordered the western edge of Caloundra Rise and Village Way retirement villages.

"The development, if approved will significantly help to deliver quality care and accommodation for the increasing ageing population for the Sunshine Coast Region," the application read.

It has quite extensive frontage to Caloundra Mooloolaba Rd but developers have only applied for one entrance to the community, along Village Way.

In its application, The Palm Lake Group said it had developed, owned and operated over 50's resorts and retirement villages in Australia for more than 40 years.

"All of the Palm Lake Group resorts consist of a wide array of communal facilities that are forever evolving and improving with each new project," the application read.

"The homes are architecturally designed for independent retirees, offering a range of styles to suit an array of preferences."

Resort facilities will include a centrally located clubhouse consisting of common lounge and dining area, library, bowling alley, craft room, gym, cinema, billiards and bar, sauna and indoor and outdoor pools.

The facilities will also include a golf room and workshop building, full-size covered bowling green and two tennis courts.

The aged care facility Palm Lake Care Caloundra, is based on the model of Palm Lake Group's existing facilities.

"The company currently has two operating aged care facilities at Deception Bay and Bethania.

"Both (are) very successful projects, providing the highest quality aged care."
