A mobile mechanic has been arrested for two alleged protracted offences against a neighbour police say he has an ongoing feud with.

Connor James Avery was taken into custody on Monday after police alleged he terrorised the victim in two separate incidents this year.

Police allege the 19-year-old chased the victim with a brick during an incident on April 15 which forced the man to flee.

It’s further alleged by police Avery followed the victim from their address on Beach Rd in Maroochydore to Ocean St on Monday night.

Magistrate Raelene Ellis said the allegations stated the Maroochydore man continued to follow the victim even after the man found refuge in a restaurant.

He was arrested and charged with assault and public nuisance before his appearance in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Tuesday where he applied for bail.

Police prosecutor Spencer Green said there was a history between the two men where it appeared Avery had a “fixation” with them.

Senior Constable Green said police alleged there could be further reprisal by Avery and objected to his release on bail.

Defence solicitor Bernard Bradley said Avery was not offered to give his version of events to police, with the men coming into contact due to living in the same building at Maroochydore.

He told the court there was no mention in court documents that his client threatened the alleged victim with a brick or even hit them.

“Are you saying that moving towards someone with a brick in their hand is not threatening to you?,” Ms Ellis asked the solicitor.

Mr Bradley said the 19-year-old mobile mechanic could live at his mother’s home at Tewantin, and could be banned from entering Maroochydore unless attending court.

The lawyer said his client could spend too much time on remand while his case goes through the courts and intended to defend the assault charge.

Ms Ellis said she was concerned about the behaviour of Avery over an extended period of time but believed there were bail conditions which would reduce risks.

Avery was granted bail. His matters will return to court on August 18.
