Open for inspection homes November 17 - 22

Check out this weekend's Sunshine Coast homes open for inspection.

The highest honour in Australian Architecture is awarded once a year torecognize distinguished service by Australian architects who have designed or executed buildings of high merit; produced work of great distinction resulting in the advancement of architecture; or endowed the profession of architecture in a distinguished manner.

This award has only been received by 58 Australian Architects and in 2010 Buderim Architects Lindsay and Kerry Clare received that honour.

This husband and wife team has been producing architectural projects for more than 30 years including a diverse range of houses and major urban and public buildings consistently acknowledged for their rare combination of design excellence and high-level environmental performance. "The Clares' ideas about experiencing natural light and ventilation are merged with their ideas about typology. They fuse ideas about type and climate into building form". Their buildings are firmly based on concerns for site, comfort and use. They are keenly aware of the sense of the traditional architecture of Queensland and build on its lesson to produce delightfully simple buildings that eschew fashion and trends but exhibit a timeless modernism.

18 Coolum View Tce, designed by the Clares in 1989 for a retired engineer and his wife is a fine example of their approach of recreating experiences: the feeling of sitting in an open space behind a screened verandah, enjoying containment, comfort and breeze; the experience of being on an elevated platform as the breeze wafts through, they take the view that it is preferable to be connected to the environment rather than sealed off from it. Here at 18 Coolum View you can sit on the verandah and gaze across the pool and rambling garden to filtered northerly views of the coast.

The home has stood the test of time and today with its contemporary update by others it's just as inspiring as it was when first built. The abundant natural light, cross flow ventilation, a sense of space and scale in a pragmatic floor plan make this the perfect family home. There exist a rare combination of features including a separate guests' section as well as generous outdoor areas, pool terrace and the ideal northerly aspect in a quiet and private location on almost half an acre on Buderim's northerly escarpment.

It's only when you have the opportunity to sit and relax in these spaces that you realize how uplifting a home can be, how it can enhance your daily experiences and in short, make you feel good about your world and where you live.
