Queensland border reopening to boost tourism

A decade-long dream finally became a reality for a Sunshine Coast mum when she opened the doors of her Mooloolaba Sip and Paint studio in November.

The concept of Sip and Paint has taken Australia by storm in recent years, becoming a popular choice for birthday events, hens parties or work events.

It involves participants of all ages unleashing their creativity on a canvas while sipping on their favourite beverage for 2.5 hours.

The Mooloolaba space is the latest addition to the Frida’s Sip ‘n’ Paint franchise which already has studios in Brisbane, Noosa, Hobart and other locations across Australia.

Owner Natasha Fenton said her first Sip and Paint session 10 years ago inspired her to open her own studio.

“I still think it is still a reasonably new concept because a lot of people that do come here have never been to one before or have never painted before,” Ms Fenton said.

“It’s nice to share a bit of the love and creativity with everyone at the moment with the way everything is.”

Having worked previously as a makeup artist, Ms Fenton said she has always been a creative person.

“I think the main reason I wanted to get into this was because of my experience and I just wanted to share how much fun I had 10 years ago,” she said.

The mum of one 22-year-old daughter said Mooloolaba was where she could see the next Sip and Paint opening and wanted to remain close to her home in Noosa.

Once she found the premises at First Ave, Ms Fenton said they fitted out the studio ready for the first customers in just four weeks.

Sessions are focused around different paintings and are led by professionally trained artists who guide the participants to create masterpieces they can take home.

Ms Fenton said the first sessions were a massive hit among Sunshine Coast locals, with many customers already re-booking.

“After the first session I felt overjoyed, I stood back and watched everyone have a really amazing time, it was just laughter, everyone was singing and it was just such a great energy,” she said.

“It felt really wonderful to experience that and know that I had made this space something that is quite special that anyone and everyone can come along and enjoy.”

Ms Fenton is encouraging more males to join in the fun after seeing her own male friends and family enjoying the experience.

“I had a friends and family evening in the beginning and there were probably just as many men if not more than women and they just had such a good time and are now big advocates for it,” she said.

Ms Fenton said there would be new painting designs released into the calendar for the new year and would love to start collaborating with other local businesses.

“There are endless ideas that I have,” she said.
