Police are no longer investigating an incident at a junior AFL game on the Sunshine Coast after the complaint was officially withdrawn.

The Under-13 mixed division two match between Maroochydore Roos and North Shore Jets was called off at halftime on June 9 after an incident between two players escalated into parents flooding the field.

A spokeswoman for the Queensland Police Service said the complaint filed had been withdrawn by the party who provided it, with police now no longer investigating.

A spokesman for AFL Queensland said their investigation into the matter was ongoing.

“The police investigation has concluded and as such, AFL Queensland is gathering and working through information to determine what, if any, action is appropriate,” the spokesman said.

June 11 - Coach attacked, parents flood field as AFL game descends into chaos

An investigation has been launched after a junior Sunshine Coast AFL game descended into chaos and was called off early.

The Under-13 mixed division two match between Maroochydore Roos and North Shore Jets was called off at halftime on Sunday after an incident between two players escalated into parents flooding the field.

It is understood a North Shore player chased a Maroochydore player after the halftime siren as teams were gathering for their huddles.

The Jets player reportedly spear-tackled the Roos player when he got a hold of him.

Witnesses said the father of Maroochydore player then swore at the Jets boy for his action, with other Roos club members also furious at what had happened.

It’s understood this led to the father of the North Shore player running at a Maroochydore coach and tackling him to the ground.

Parents and supporters then flooded the field before the umpires made the decision to call the game off.

A spokesman from AFL Queensland said they were investigating the incident.

“AFL Queensland is aware of an incident at a junior game on the weekend, which led to the game being called off,” the spokesman said.

“Further information is being gathered and from there any appropriate action will be determined.”

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said they were looking into the incident.

“Police are investigating an alleged physical altercation between two men in their 40s at a sporting ground on Nojoor Road, Mudjimba on Sunday, May 9,” the spokeswoman said. “Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information is urged to contact police.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
