Two separate proposals have been lodged to establish a place of worship and upgrade another on the Sunshine Coast to benefit members of the community.

An application to upgrade and expand Coolum Beach Baptist trust was lodged to Sunshine Coast Council shortly before a proposal for a new gospel hall to be established in Glenview was submitted.

The Glenview development application was made by Murray and Associates on behalf of Nambour Gospel Trust for the site at 33 Ballantyne Court, Glenview.

The application states the new hall would “conduct charitable endeavours” including occasional housing for community members in need, establish a “Rapid Relief Team” to help the homeless and feed first responders, provide a weekly supper on Sunday mornings and a group prayer on Monday evenings.

It is estimated between 30-35 attendees live in close proximity.

The 5738sqm site would use the existing single-storey home on the property for its activities to benefit workers, volunteers and patrons, documents stated.

The current house has three bedrooms and design plans show a large meeting room stretching 43.7sqm.

The garage will store equipment for the “Rapid Relief Team”.

The proposal will be open for community consultation as it is an “other defined use” in a rural residential zone.

Adapt Planning also handed in a development application to council for an extension for the Coolum Beach Baptist Church at 1912 David Low Way, Coolum.

The application showed plans for additional office space, a youth sports hall and storage shed as well as a cafe operated by a third party.

It is also proposed to extend the pulpit area.

Documents show it is intended to incorporate an outdoor dining area for the cafe.

The youth hall would be used for church proceedings as well as community groups outside of the church which may require to use the space, documents stated.

It is proposed the cafe would be open in the morning and the youth activities would be scheduled in the evening, providing “on-site parking relief” on top of the bus station located nearby.

The plans fall short of the 77 required car parks, with 65 slots to be arranged on the 3763sqm instead.

The development application will be subject to community consultation as the cafe will be operated by a third party.
