Scott Hillier reveals which spots are ‘worth a shot’

From queenfish and sub-nosed darts to an impressive-looking grassy sweetlip – the gun anglers who hooked the catch of the day. SEE THE PICTURES

Cool conditions with a bit of wind forecast for the weekend, so for those keen to chase a few fish it looks like inshore areas will be the popular spot.

There is a still nice run in the tide now on the back of the full moon.

Beach anglers have been getting stuck into plenty of bream and tarwhine at the moment with some top quality among them.

The first few hours of the run in tide has been best and for bait fresh strips of mullet, tuna, squid, pilchard tails and prawns have all been working.

Spots worth a shot include Kawana, Mudjimba, Marcoola, Yaroomba and Sunshine beaches.

Some monster dart are also getting around and those soaking a whole pilchard are seeing a couple of tailor, although not big in numbers.

Sitting and being patient is being rewarded.

The rivers and creeks are also holding plenty of bream at the moment.

Anywhere with a bit of structure in particular the bridges have good schools of fish.

Strip bait and prawns are providing those on light spin gear plenty of fun.

The Maroochy, Noosa and Mooloolah rivers are the hot spots during the week.

The smaller trevally and queenfish are still on the move chasing down the bait fish as the tide starts to push in, with a few of the Queenfish well up over 60cm.

They are being caught by those casting small soft plastics, metal slugs, surface lures and live baits.

Some good tailor is caught in the Noosa, Maroochy and Pumicestone passage, floating lightly weighted pilchards into the main channel during the run in tide.

A reminder to offshore anglers that the snapper and pearl perch closure is still in force and run through until the August 15.
