A mystery explosion has baffled residents and emergency services alike in the Noosa Hinterland last night.
The online community boards went into overdrive across the region about 7pm on Saturday, as people from Cooroy to Lake MacDonald reported hearing the noise and speculated on the cause.
Hundreds of people reported their houses, roofs and windows shaking from the blast as far away as Cooroy, with the noise appearing to centre on Lake MacDonald.
A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said they arrived at the scene just after 7pm on Leanne Drive near Lake MacDonald road, the lake’s dam and the Noosa Botanical Gardens.
Crews spent time searching and asking nearby residents if they saw anything to no avail.
“There was no fire, no damage, nothing to find at all,” said the spokeswoman.
Commenters said police were out asking questions nearby but didn’t know any probable cause.
Police were also called to Lake McDonald about 7pm but located nothing.
Some people heard helicopters then the explosion or two concurrent explosions around Pearsons Drive.
