Elevated Coolum Beach site provided a challenge but owners could not have wished for better outcome

FOR the first time since it was built 17 years ago, the property designed by Frank Macchia at 15 Godilla Street, Coolum Beach, is on the market through Belle Property Noosa.

Owners Bill and Jean, bought the block of land at 15 Godilla Street in 1999 but wasn't sure what to do with it.

"Initially Bill wasn't too keen on it because it was going to be a difficult and expensive block to build on,'' Jean said.

"At that time we were living and working in Gladstone and had a beautiful unit in Coolum Beach, which was to have been our retirement home.

"We found unit living wasn't for us and decided to sell.

"In our travels frequently up and down the David Low Way, there was one particular house I admired, wishing one day I could build something just like it.

"Once the decision was made to sell the unit I summoned up the courage to knock on the door of the house and ask if they knew who the architect was. Hence the journey began with our amazing designer Frank Macchia.''

Assessing the site, Macchia accepted the challenge and designed Jean and Bill the immense three-level home that sits upon it today - a four-bedroom masterpiece with sweeping views from the Coral Sea through to Mount Coolum and the hinterland. The build started in March 2001 taking just on 12 months to complete.

"With us living in Gladstone, Frank oversaw the build and constantly kept us informed," Jean explained.

"It was always an exciting time when we made it down to Coolum to see the project taking shape and meet with Frank with regard to fixtures and colour choices.

"Seeing something on paper is one thing but seeing it eventually evolve just blew us away.''

The architectural features of this build are as unique as they are impressive and for Jean, there is no single feature that stands out, but a combination of the whole design that creates a home unlike any other.

"The 'fins' on the front of the build are one of my favourite features, as is the fire box and the ambience it provides on a cold winters night.

"The immense ceilings and shadow line style throughout the house is also very special and the built-in storage makes it an easy place to live in.

For Jean and Bill, living at 15 Godilla Street has been a dream come true and something that will be truly missed.

"Our expansive views over Coolum down to Mooloolaba and out over the hinterland provide an ever changing picture - glorious sunsets and sunrises and all the aspects that nature provides.

"Living in Coolum is a fabulous part of the world and the fact that we have some great neighbours has also made this a wonderful place to be."
