A drunk and drugged-up teen who went around Noosa assaulting five different men he didn’t know has faced court for the random attacks which left one man with a broken jaw.

A Cooroibah teenager has spent most of his 18th year behind bars after he assaulted five different men he didn’t know in the early hours of the morning at Noosa.

Cayden Troy Hele, 18, was given three years’ prison suspended for five years with three years’ probation after serving 324 days in presentence custody.

Maroochydore District Court was told Hele was intoxicated when he committed a series of “unprovoked” assaults on five men in their 20s who he had never met.

Crown prosecutor Elle Bolam said the first assault occurred when Hele approached a 20-year-old man at a bus stop and without warning punched him in the face.

“It caused him to stumble back … he could feel immediately that something in his face was broken,” Ms Bolam said.

Hele followed the man and swung his arms around yelling “do you want to f-----g go?” to which the victim responded “you’ve broken my face, please leave me alone”.

The victim’s jaw was fractured in two places and he was taken to hospital where he underwent surgical repair involving the insertion of plates and screws.

Five minutes after breaking his first victim’s jaw, Hele saw five men who were catching an Uber after a night out.

Ms Bolam said Hele asked the group for a cigarette and when they declined he walked straight up to one of the men and punched his head.

One of the man’s friends stepped in and a fight briefly broke out where Hele “danced around” throwing punches.

Hele then abruptly punched one of the men in the nose and eye socket, causing him pain and a black eye.

The court heard a third man who was just standing by was then targeted by Hele who punched him in the head, knocking him to the ground.

Judge Nathan Jarro said his body was motionless on the ground for a couple of seconds and it appeared he may have lost consciousness for a few seconds.

He suffered bruising to his eye and the right side of his face.

Hele also went to the driver’s side rear window of the Uber where he punched the window three times, shattering the glass.

Judge Jarro said Hele then got into a ute and spotted a 23-year-old who had just left a nightclub.

“You got out and immediately began for some unexplained reason fighting with him … you punched this person in the head and face,” he told the court.

Defence barrister Mark Dixon said his client had completed his schooling at the Flexible Learning Centre at Noosa and had been struggling with the absence of his father in his life at the time of the offending.

Mr Dixon said Hele was working in a yard maintenance business that he built up himself but when he began to drink heavily and use drugs the business began to fail.

The court heard Hele had written a letter of apology and was working on his alcohol problem.

Judge Jarro said Hele was still young and had the prospects of turning his life around.

Hele pleaded guilty to three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, two counts of common assault, grievous bodily harm and wilful damage.
