A Sunshine Coast OnlyFans content creator has revealed how she makes a living from the online platform while also busting myths about the adult entertainment industry.

Katherine Lameree, 31, earns most of her money from the subscription-only platform that boasts more than 120 million registered users, but it is not all racy photo shoots and fancy locations.

The content creator is a bona-fide businesswoman who has to pay her taxes and keep content flowing for her subscribers.

“You’ve got to maintain that income and you’ve got to maintain that engagement,” Ms Lameree said.

Starting out

The content creator worked as a promotional model in an era of print magazines before social media took off.

“I was always a glamour model, so anything from bikinis, lingerie, impolite nude etc, I auditioned for Playboy, was in Zoo magazines,” Ms Lameree said.

“When the rush of OnlyFans started I decided to jump on because I was always pushing the limits of Instagram and this became a safer spot … and it also became financially viable.

“I wasn’t posting for the sake of posting anymore, I was posting for my own profit.”

How OnlyFans works

OnlyFans describes itself as a subscription platform for those aged 18-plus “empowering creators to own their full potential” and monetise their content.

Former reality television stars and sports celebrities are among those who make up the more than 2.1 million content creators who use the site.

Ms Lameree has a tiered payment system attached to her profile, offering subscription only content and extras that viewers pay for.

She also makes adult content and said the rules around testing and consent were strict.

Creators must show each other STI test results and be tested monthly, Ms Lameree said, before any collaboration occurred and if so much as another person’s hand or voice snuck into a shot a consent form must be obtained before OnlyFans would publish content.

“We always have a conversation about what’s expected, what we’re doing, what’s a ‘yes’ and what’s a ‘no’ and complete consent with each party,” Ms Lameree said.

Online earnings v modelling

The creator makes between $2000 and $5000 a week.

She said modelling work, on the other hand, was “irregular” and she could earn between $500 and $1200 per job.

Ms Lameree spends many hours working, not only creating content for her subscribers about two days a week but also editing her content and creating and scheduling posts.

She also responds to messages on several social media platforms.

Ms Lameree said, like any contractor, if she did not work she did not get paid and she wanted to bust a myth that those in the adult entertainment industry did not pay taxes.

“We are responsible for paying our taxes and if we don’t, we get caught,” she said.

The content creator said there was a time when promotional work “slowly started to disappear” and she was fortunate to have an audience that followed her to the OnlyFans platform.

The creator has a following of more than 41,000 on Instagram alone.

Who pays for her time

She has had to “broaden her horizons” and extend beyond a car and motoring niche for which she is most well known.

She said some of the people who messaged her for a paid conversation just wanted to talk.

“It doesn’t necessarily have to be adult content,” Ms Lameree said.

“I’ve had a lot of people who just want to talk or are intimidated talking to a female and they just have questions.”

The content creator does feel pretty vulnerable in an online world because some people try hard to identify her and where she lives.

But she sees a future in the industry, possibly eventually in a more behind-the-scenes role or as a mentor to other creators.
