AURA, City of Colour, is not the future place name for the 50,000 population master-planned community that is to emerge to Caloundra’s immediate south.

It is, according to a spokesperson for Deputy Premier and Planning Minister Jackie Trad, merely a marketing name coined by developer Stockland.

Just where the name came from has been a a cause for wonder since it was first revealed last week at an official launch of development attended by Ms Trad, Mayor Mark Jamieson, councillors and a bevy of dignitaries.

Councillor Tim Dwyer, a Caloundra local government representative for the past 16 years, said the origins of the name had been the cause of much speculation.

He said it had been put to him that the name needed to end with an "A" - think Caloundra, Mooloolaba, Kawana, Birtinya, Noosa, Mudjimba, Marcoola etc, but not Peregian, Cooroy, Nambour, Bli Bli, Maroochydore, Kenilworth, Mooloolah, Peachester, Maleny or Beerwah.

Asked whether Aura was the marketing name for the development known as Caloundra South or to be the gazetted place name for formal inclusion in mapping and other official documents, Ms Trad's spokesperson said it was a marketing name adopted by Stockland.

"It is not an official place name," she said.

Last week a Stockland spokesman said: "We wanted our new name for the city to reflect the many natural elements, experiences, unexpected details, textures, cultures, and people of all ages that will bring this new city to life. With all of these elements in mind, we decided to call the new community 'Aura'."
