A senior environmental scientist has appealed to a Brisbane court to let him drink alcohol again, after he was charged with multiple domestic violence offences.

An experienced environmental professional has appealed to a Brisbane court to let him drink alcohol again, after he was charged with domestic violence offences.

Steven Paul Sherrington, 47, attended Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday after he was charged earlier this month with five offences.

The principal environmental scientist at consultancy company Agon Environmental is alleged to have assaulted a woman three times on November 2 in Brisbane.

Sherrington is charged with three counts of common assault and one count of wilful damage on that date.

Police further allege Sherrington breached his bail on November 3.

The Morningside resident was issued a notice to appear and was represented by defence lawyer Ryan Godfrey for the matter’s first mention on Friday.

Mr Godfrey requested a variation to Sherrington’s watch house bail conditions, which the court heard included a condition he not consume any alcohol.

Sherrington had been over the middle alcohol limit when police spoke to him at the watchhouse, but there was no allegation alcohol played any role in his alleged offending, the court heard.

“He was drinking … but it wasn’t to the sense in my understanding that he was in excess or anything of that nature,” Mr Godfrey said.

The alcohol condition was removed from Sherrington’s bail conditions, and the matter was adjourned to December 12.
