Labor’s Megan O’Hara Sullivan says she will head straight back to work at the Toowoomba Regional Council today after her failed attempt to nab Toowoomba North off the LNP at the state election.

“I feel disappointed, on behalf of the people who believed in me, worked hard for me and believed in Labor values of equality and a fair go for all,” Cr O’Hara Sullivan said about the result.

She said people had voted to stick with what they knew during uncertain times.

“That was born out through all of the electorates, as most incumbents, except for a small minority, have remained,” she said.

Though she said she’d “be a fool not to think” the New Acland Coal Mine, the fact she did not live in the electorate, and her position on the Toowoomba Regional Council could have also played a part in her loss.

“My opponent having a budget five times mine also played a large part,” she said.

“In council I’ll continue to try and bring progressive change to the community.”
